Porn Hub Protecting Free Speech

Updated: Sep 17, 2023

A Win for Pornhub, But What About Our Brains and the Nation

The land of the free has once again triumphed in defending its most cherished amendment - the First Amendment.

The land of the free has once again triumphed in defending its most cherished amendment - the First Amendment. A Texas law requiring porn sites to establish age-verification measures and display warning labels about porn's alleged dangers was recently struck down as unconstitutional. The lawsuit was spearheaded by the Free Speech Coalition, which includes Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, and other adult industry stakeholders. The Texas Attorney General's office, clearly not satisfied with being spanked in court, immediately appealed.

On the surface, this seems like a win for free speech enthusiasts. However, beneath the surface, a more sinister issue lurks, one that is often overlooked in the whirlwind of legal battles and constitutional rights - the actual harm porn inflicts on its consumers. The porn industry, infamous for its ability to corrupt the innocent and turn them into tissues (and not the crying kind), must also be held accountable for the devastating impact it has on the viewers. Renowned Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson, who is not exactly the life of the party but makes some valid points, has consistently cautioned against the perils of pornography. He emphasizes its addictive properties and its capacity to seize control of the brain's reward system, resulting in a diminished interest in real-world activities and social interactions.

Peterson's concerns are echoed by a multitude of experts who warn of the long-term damage caused by the dopamine and excitement released while watching porn. This often leads to a deterioration of social skills and incalculable damage to the brain. Sadly, this critical issue seems to be drowned out by the clamor surrounding First Amendment rights and court decisions.

As staunch supporters of the First Amendment, we find ourselves in a quandary. We are committed to defending your right to free speech, even if it is distasteful. However, it is challenging to ignore the harm caused by porn, especially to young men who are losing their social abilities and inflicting irreparable damage to their brains.

Aylo, formerly MindGeek and parent company of Pornhub, stated that they have supported mandatory age verification for years but stressed that it must safeguard user privacy and safety. They argue that device-level age verification is the only solution that ensures internet safety, preserves user privacy, and prevents children from accessing age-inappropriate content. While this is a step in the right direction, it does not address the broader issue at hand - the actual content and its effects on consumers.

In the grand scheme of things, we must find a middle ground between protecting free speech and addressing the very real harms caused by pornography. It's a daunting task, but one we must undertake with utmost urgency. Stay safe, and stay away from porn. Your future self will be eternally grateful. And remember, laughter is the best medicine, unless you have diarrhea.

Stay humorous, stay safe, and for goodness sake, stay away from porn unless you want your hand to become your best friend.
